Founded in 1977, it all began with a dream and a $500 loan from Farmers Bank and Trust Company in Frankfort. Janie Olmstead was an at-home mom with two young children, Julie, age four, and Bob, age two. She had a Bachelor of Arts in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation and a Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of Kentucky.

IMAGES Model Candace

Having been Miss Kentucky, a school teacher, and a guidance counselor, Janie began images in 1977 and taught classes once a week above Magee’s Bakery in downtown Frankfort.

Five years later she moved IMAGES to Lexington and the client base increased by leaps and bounds.

Classes were taught to children, teens, and adults (male and female). Even a baby file strengthened IMAGES’ strong hold in the modeling industry. In 1993, IMAGES was awarded an educational excellence award at IMTA (International Model & Talent Association) convention in New York City.

Then in 1994, 1995, and 1996, IMAGES was named “International Modeling School of the Year” in New York City thus inducting IMAGES into the Modeling Hall of Fame in 1997. Janie received the Lifetime Achievement Award for modeling school owners.

IMAGES was named Lexington, Kentucky’s “Small Business of the Year” in 2003 by the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. 80% of all businesses in Lexington are small businesses. All of us at IMAGES were honored to receive such a prestigious award. IMAGES’ owner, Janie Olmstead, was named Lexington’s “Business Woman of the Year” by NAWBO, the National Association of Women Business Owners in 2002.

IMAGES continues to make “dreams come true” for individuals, young and old. With our outstanding reputation for community involvement, IMAGES makes a positive impact in Lexington and beyond.
